Every year, CEDIA (Custom Electronic Design and Installation Association, the A/V industry’s trade group) celebrates the pinnacle of home technology design and installation with its prestigious awards. Among the finalists for the Best Home Cinema category in 2023 was a project that stood out not only for its technical excellence, but also for its intriguing backstory. Here's a closer look at this remarkable home theater and the talented team behind it.
The Unexpected Call
The story began with an unexpected phone call to Audio Images, a leading home technology design firm based in Orange County, California. They received an unexpected call from someone claiming to be a prominent Silicon Valley executive. Initially, they thought it was a practical joke. However, it soon became clear that this was a serious inquiry.
The Vision: Creating a Home Cinema Masterpiece
The executive's vision was clear: to create reference-quality screening room in their home. This task was made more challenging in that the executive was a film studio owner and movie producer. So the goal was a system that “outshone any commercial theatre, while also offering superior audio reproduction.” Additionally, the room had to be optimized for video gaming as well, and had to fulfill the client’s desire for exceptional bass.
The Design and Execution
Audio Images worked closely with interior designer Lynda Murray Interior Design to get the look right, and coordinated with acoustical engineer Anthony Grimani to assure the sound met all the criteria. This collaboration and thoughtful integration created a “space where technology and design come together to create an unparalleled viewing and gaming experience.”
The final room exceeded client expectations.
